Our History: Piel Canela through time

Decades ago, Piel Canela was born through the desire to create custom-made gifts. Founder María Landa began this adventure by taking bookbinding classes and, when creating her first leather album, discovered the wonders of working with this material.

Discovering the possibilities that skin has as a material to create began this adventure. Seeking to rescue the tradition of leather goods in Mexico. 1998. Home

Our first sale was the production of gifts for managers, leather-lined organizing boxes . Thus he created a gift that he knew, in addition to being practical, was something that would transcend.

Later, an artisan looked for her to sell her the workshop, since they had no one to sell the products to. María spoke with him and learned that his grandfather taught him and his father this ancient craft and, upon seeing the quality and passion they put into each product, she decided to support the continuation of this tradition. He began to work with the artisans on new designs and thus began this great story in the art of leather goods in Mexico.

1999. The workshop

Design and workmanship have been the formula to create unique products that differentiate us. We invested in machinery to improve the carpentry workshop, for the artisan who supported us from the beginning and has grown together with Piel Canela. María, the founder of Piel Canela, has always been present in the workshop, focused on having a close relationship with the artisans to achieve continuous improvement, since she knows that the small details are what make the big differences, that is why we focus in giving excellent finishes to each piece. All the magic that each design carries happens here: the choice of the best materials, the handmade craftsmanship, the preparation and the detail that each product requires.

2000 . The classic line is born

To publicize the products, we opened the showroom and participated in bazaars and fairs. The first collection of products from the Classic Line was presented with colors: cinnamon, chocolate, red and black reinvented, in which notebooks , organizing boxes , passport holders , picture frames, albums, portfolios, among other products were presented.

2001 . The engraving machine

Knowing the value given to an engraved piece, we acquired the first machine to engrave on the skin, a printing press was used. They had to innovate, since in Mexico the leather goods industry for this type of products was not developed. We make your products personalized and to the extent you want them.

Since Piel Canela began, we have always preserved and sustained its artisanal techniques and its values as a Mexican brand. 2002 . New designs

Acquisition of old Italian tool. We support other artisans and sister workshops with investment in machinery to make equipment and be a member that contributes to the community. New custom pieces are created such as organizing boxes , watch boxes, boxes for personal stationery, notebooks , passport holders , envelopes, document holders and tie holders for travel.
