Decades ago Piel Canela was born through the desire to create bespoke gifts.
The founder, María Landa began this adventure by taking bookbinding classes because when she created her first leather album, she discovered the wonders of working with skin. Discovering the possibilities that skin has as a material to create, they started this adventure.
Her first sale was the elaboration of gifts for managers, boxes lined in leather and thus he created a gift that he knew that in addition to being practical it was something that would transcend.
Later a craftsman looks for it to sell him the workshop already that they had no one to sell the products to. María spoke with him and learned that his grandfather taught his father and him this millenary trade and, seeing the quality and passion that they put into each product, decided to support the continuation of this tradition. He began to work with artisans in new designs and thus began this great story in the art of leather goods in Mexico.
Design and workmanship has been the formula to create unique products that differentiate us, invested in machinery to improve from the carpentry workshop and to give excellent finishes to new models.
THE CLASSIC LINE IS BORN
To publicize the products, a showroom was opened and we have participated in bazaars and fairs.
The first collection of products from the Classic Line is presented with colors: Cinnamon, chocolate , red and black reinvented.
THE ENGRAVING MACHINE
Knowing the value that is given to an engraved piece, we acquired the first machine to achieve engraving on the skin, a printing press was used, we had to innovate since in Mexico the leather goods industry for this type of products was not developed.
Acquisition of an old Italian tool. We support other artisans and sister workshops with investment in machinery to make equipment and be a member that contributes to the community.
New custom pieces are created such as watch boxes, personal stationery and travel tie holders.
A year in which we are considered an excellent option to reflect the brand identity, this is how the corporate market grows with Canela Corp and we started with orders for large companies such as TV Azteca and Sony.

We send a press release and we have the first publications in prestigious media, the first interview in a workshop.
Our product families continue to grow with new designs for ladies, kids, home and classic board games.
FIRST RECOGNITIONS AS A MEXICAN BRAND
Raise awareness of the added value that we can give to lifestyles such as Gorumet and Wines by creating products that remain remembering moments that pass as experiences and leaving objects that are valued by the memories they keep.
We present the concept of "La Cata of the Senses "where a sommelier takes the tasting and Piel Canela presents, sensitizes and leads to appreciate and enjoy the sense of touch.

MADE TO SIZE
Our ability to create unique and tailored products with Canela Corp , leads us to work on special projects in new markets: hotels and restaurants –guest folders, menu holders, trash cans–.
Opening of own workshop, large investment in machinery.

The first collection is presented in a very symbolic year for being the bicentennial and embroideries are made with gold and silver thread on the skin, surprising in the interiors of the products with colors that identify us as Mexican.
A new art-object line is presented, where we cover Mexican toys such as tops, balls, yoyos, planes and boats in leather and decorate them with colored ribbons.
The inspiration for Tzompantli b is born > Inspired by the wall of skulls, where to bring the texture and shine of obsidian, which is a stone used by our ancestors, we handle patent leather recalling obsidian.
Participation in the Gift Fair of New York and Mexico Initiative.
Looking for inspiration in Mexico in Architecture, we find as an international icon the architecture of Art Deco such as Arq. Luis Barragán and inspired by the color and symmetries we use leather in colors such as pink and yellow in the collection contrasted with grays that simulate the shadows that give that distinction in this current of contemporary architecture projecting a Mexico that puts magic and elegance to colors.

On this tour he is accompanied by a master leathermaker where together with him we learn about the different leathers and we go live appreciating the characteristic colors and textures as well as we see how this leather transforms it with this millenary art into a unique object that gives it a new life .
